Step-by-Step Summary

  1. Degrease Drivetrain: Apply degreaser to chain and cassette. Scrub with stiff brush.
  2. Rinse: Gently rinse the bike with water. Do NOT use high pressure jet wash on bearings (hubs, BB, pivots).
  3. Soap & Scrub: Use warm soapy water and soft sponge. Start at the top (saddle/bars) and work down to the dirty areas (tires/wheels).
  4. Rinse Again: Rinse off all soap suds.
  5. Dry: Bounce bike to shake off drops. Dry with clean rag or chamois.
  6. Lube Chain: Apply fresh chain lube. This is critical to prevent immediate rust.
  7. Disc Brakes: Be careful not to get degreaser or spray polish on disc brake rotors.

[!TIP] A clean bike is a fast bike, but more importantly, it lets you spot cracks or damage early.
