Step-by-Step Summary

  1. Set height and angle: Height should be 1-3mm max above the tall teeth of the big ring. Cage should be perfectly parallel to the chainrings.
  2. Shift to smallest ring: Shift chain to smallest chainring and largest rear cog.
  3. Set Low (L) Limit: Adjust 'L' screw so the inner cage plate is 0.5-1mm away from the chain. It should not rub, but be very close.
  4. Anchor cable: Pull cable distinctively tight and clamp it.
  5. Shift to big ring: Shift chain to the smallest rear cog and try to shift to the big ring.
  6. Set High (H) Limit: Shift to the big ring. Adjust 'H' screw so outer cage plate is 0.5-1mm away from the chain.
  7. Fine tune: Test shifting. Use the barrel adjuster to add tension if the chain struggles to climb to the big ring.

[!NOTE] Front derailleurs are finicky. Patience is key. If the cage isn't parallel, limits will never work correctly.
